Eclipse earrings

D.G. in Jewelry 11 went beyond his “eclipse” sweat-solder practise project and created these gorgeous earrings as a gift for his mom. Nickel silver and brass were used, as well as a sheet metal punch to get those perfect circles. Metals were sweat-soldered together, and his finishing touch was stamping a mountain design into both earrings. Beautiful work!

Creative Rings – Senior Jewelry

Senior students K.C. and D.G. created these self-directed ring projects. K.C. annealed, twisted, and forged the silver band ring and cut out the “V” ring with a jewellers’ saw. D.G. took on a challenge with this brass “ball ring”, where spheres were created by purposefully melting small pieces of brass wire, then soldering them onto a band. Excellent work!

Memorial Ornament

This touching memorial ornament was commissioned by fellow teacher and counselor J.B. for her late father’s memorial tree. Students L.J. and K.C. took on this project and used letter stamps for the inscription, liver of sulfur to darken the letters, and some gorgeous wirework and an added heart charm hanging from the bottom. J.B. was incredible touched, and will cherish this gift. Thank you so much, L.J. and K.C. for being so keen to create this!

Bonus Creative Projects

These extra projects were designed and created by Grade 11 student K.C. – WOW! Pitbull was sweat-soldered and had a small heart charm added with a jump ring, and both projects were intricately cut by hand using a jewellers’ saw.

Gorgeous work, K.C.!

Fall 2020 Creative Projects

These stunning pieces were designed and hand-cut by Senior Jewelry/Metalwork students. Canucks logo by D.G., Tiger by L.J., Cityscape (with tempered skyline and triple-sweat-solder!) by A.K., Lion by K.C., Humpback Whale by B.C., Mountain Biker by E.V.T., intricate Rose cut-out by R.M., Wolf by C.P., Lakers logo by Q.S., Air Jordan by T.B., Butterfly by V.N., and Cat by J.C.

Great work, everyone!

Awesome custom-carved lost wax castings!

Early 2020 Grade 12 student B.G. really took to casting, and used his artistic skills to custom-carve his own sterling silver skull ring (in-process and completed photos here). We decided to finish off his ring with a liver-of-sulfur patina to give it a darker sheen, and it turned out SO good!

Also pictured is a second casting hand-carved by B.G. (heart inside a triangle). Excellent work, and I hope post-grad life is treating you well!

Belt Buckles 2019!

Check out these amazing belt buckles created by Senior Jewelry/Metalwork students in Fall 2019! Each student comes up with their own design, chooses their layout, hand-cuts all shapes with a jeweller’s saw, and also learns lathework and MIG welding to create the backing of their buckles. Three layers of different metal are cold-formed with solid rivets, and students can choose to temper, texture, paint, and polish their layers to make them pop.

Fantastic work, everyone!

Manta Ray Creative Project

This creative project by J.G. deserves special recognition! J.G. came up with this project concept in the hopes of shaping the manta ray to look as though it is moving through water. What an incredible job! J.G. cut all details out by hand with a jewellers saw, and delicately shaped the brass using small jewellers’ anvils. Gorgeous work, and I hope you are enjoying post-grad life, J.G.!
